After 41 years Indian men’s hockey team made history as they won the medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020. They defeated Germany 5-4 for the bronze medal. On their victory, Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi congratulated them and announced a cash award of Rupees one crore to each player from the state. Discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur stood sixth in Olympics also got financial help from NRIs. She can make victory in the final match but because of financial problems, she was unable to do so. Now she will get an amount of 25000 per month from NRIs, who will sponsor selective athletes. They will help them to provide financial support and practice and training abroad.
