22 YouTube news channels blocked spreading misinformation. April 5, The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, ordered to block 22 YouTube-based news channels, three Twitter accounts, one Facebook, and one news website for spreading misinformation. 18 Indian-based and 4 Pakistan-based YouTube channels have been blocked. I&B ministry told in a statement that blocked YouTube channels were spreading misinformation regarding India’s national security and foreign relations and public order. These channels had a 260 crore viewership.
I&B ministry took action on Indian YouTube channels for the first time
The ministry told that it took action on 18 Indian YouTube news channels for the first time ever since the IT Rules, 2021 has stemmed. Social media accounts were spreading fake information about sensitive topics such as the Indian Armed Forces, J&K, the Ukrainian war, India’s foreign relations, etc. Not only that, logos of certain TV news channels and anchors were being used to mislead the people and increase the virality of the fake content. The ministry said that the Government of India is always committed to a trustworthy and safe online news media environment. India’s sovereignty, integrity, national security, and public order will be maintained.
