Chandigarh administration directed religious places marriage
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been issued by the Chandigarh administration for marriage. SOPs have been issued so that couples who came for marriage to the religious place should not be harassed. All religious places are directed to follow the SOPs and to maintain a record of all the weddings done by them. They have to maintain a separate register to keep a record so that the administration or court can take it. The administration will take action against the religious institutions that do not follow the instructions.
Standard Operating Procedure for marriage
Religious institutions must investigate the age of the couple as prescribed by the law.
Religious institutions must not harass the couple.
They can not force the couple to take consent from their parents for marriage.
Extra charges must not be collected from the couple.
Marriage can be done only in front of two relatives or friends and their age must be above 18 years.
The following information must be collected from the couple
Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Date of birth, Residential address, Mobile number, Adhaar number (optional), Nationality, and religion. Institutions have to ask the couple whether they are married/ divorced/ widow before this marriage.
The information collected from the witness
Name, Father’s Name, Age, Relation with the couple, Residential address, and mobile number. (Dainik Bhaskar reported on February 1)
