Delhi govt will give 5000 each to workers affected by the ban on construction. On November 25, Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his government will give Rupees 5000 each to the workers affected by the ban on construction activities in Delhi due to air pollution. He added that his government will also compensate workers for the loss of their minimum wages. Non-polluting construction activities such as plumbing work, carpentry, and electric work are allowed. CM Kejriwal said that the Delhi government will hold special camps for the registration of laborers at construction sites. They all need to be registered with the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board for availing of government benefits.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the government Supreme Court ordered to reimpose the ban on the construction activities in Delhi-NCR. He also informed that instructions have been given to the Labour Department to make a plan to provide financial assistance to workers affected by the ban. He told that CNG and electric trucks will be allowed to enter the national capital from November 27 and the ban on entry of trucks will continue till December 3.
