Indian govt made Gold hallmarking compulsory. Gold hallmarking is compulsory from 15 June 2021 by Indian government which was voluntary earlier . Due to COVID – 19 Indian govt changed deadline from January 15 to June 15 . According to new guidelines jewelers can only sale 14 , 18 and 22 carat gold items . If gold items are found without BIS hallmark then jewelers will be imprisoned for one year and they also have to give five times cost of that object as penalty .
A committee formed under Bureau of India Standards ( BIS ) to implement new guidelines . BIS is running hallmarking scheme since April 2000 . Gold hallmarking will provide satisfaction and protection to gold customers .
