Link Voter ID Aadhaar Card new electoral reforms. On December 15, the union cabinet approved a bill on electoral reforms, which will be based on the recommendations of the Election Commission. A voter can link his/her Aadhaar Card with Voter ID, on a voluntary basis. As per the recommendations of the Election Commission, linking Voter ID with the Aadhaar Card will restrict an individual to enroll himself at different places. This move will strengthen the electoral process and will help weed out duplication. The Election Commission also suggested making the electoral law “gender neutral” for service officers. According to the new law husband of the service officer can vote as well. Earlier, this right is available only to the wife of the service officer. Another proposal given by the Election Commission is that voters can now register themselves under the voter list four times a year with four different cut-off dates. PTI reported that the bill will be introduced in the ongoing Parliament Winter Session.
