Mirabai Chanu won silver medal Tokyo Olympics 2020
Mirabai Chanu won silver medal Tokyo Olympics 2020 in the 49 kg category. On the first day of the Tokyo games, India won its first silver medal. With this victory, Mirabai Chanu ended India’s 21 years wait to win a medal at Olympics. Earlier Karan Malleswari in Sydney Olympics 2000 won the bronze medal for India in weight lifting. Mirabai Chanu lifted 202 kg ( 87 kg + 115 kg ) total which was 8 kg less than the gold medalist. In clean and jerk Chanu lifted 115 kg and in the snatch, she lifted 87 kg. In the last attempt of clean and jerk, she tried to lift 117 kg but couldn’t make it.
Hou Zhihui from China lifted 210 kg ( 94 kg + 116 kg ) and became the gold medalist in weightlifting. Aisah Windy Cantika lifted 194 kg ( 84 kg + 110 kg ), won a bronze medal for Indonesia.
