Punjab Assembly Election 2022 Election Commission postponed February 20
Punjab Assembly Election 2022 Election Commission postponed February 20. On January 17, the Election Commission of India has postponed the Punjab Assembly Election 2022. CM Channi wrote a letter to the Election Commission to postpone the assembly elections because of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. Different political parties like BJP, BSP, Captain Amarinder Singh, and Bhagwant Mann also demanded the same. As per the new schedule, assembly polls will take place on February 20, 2022, instead of February 14, 2022.
Scheduled Castes voters may not be able to cast their vote
Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi said that Scheduled Castes comprises 32 percent of Punjab’s population. Ravidas Jayanti is on February 16 so a large number of people visit Banaras (Uttar Pradesh) from February 10 to 16. If this is so, then a lot of people may not be able to vote. They requested the Election Commission to postpone the voting date in such a way that the Scheduled Castes community can visit Banaras and also participate in the assembly polls.
Bhagwant Mann also tweeted that if the election commission postpones the Punjab assembly election by a week then the feelings of millions of people will be appreciated, as the SC community visits Banaras on Guru Ravidas Jayanti.
