Punjab govt restraining gun culture possible solid moves
Punjab govt restraining gun culture possible solid moves. The Punjab government put a ban on extolling gun culture in Punjabi songs, additionally, no one is allowed to share pictures or videos with weapons on any social media platform. The state police are filing a series of cases at different places, those are involved in the aforementioned activities. For instance, FIR was lodged against the famous Kulhad Pizza couple, a couple of days ago, however, it has been clarified by the couple that it was a toy gun shown in the video. The state police are reviewing the license of weapons whosoever is owning weapons. The licenses have been suspended and FIRs are being lodged against culprits as well.
In this article, I will share my personal opinion on why weapon glorification is ingrained in Punjabi songs, whether will it be enough to put a ban on songs in which weapons are popularized, and whether is it fair to blame only Punjab or Punjabi songs for the promotion of weapons and to what extent a song (in which weapons are extolled) affects a person’s psyche? What more could be done?
Reasons for weapon glorification in Punjabi songs
As we all know that “Sikh Kaum” is a warrior Kaum. Everyone knows that Punjab has always seen an immense number of atrocities. So, for self-defense people used to keep weapons. It can be heard in old Punjabi songs i.e. Jatt Jeona Morhh. As thoughts are dynamic new weapons names can be heard in songs.
How helpful would that be a ban on weapon-promoting songs?
Undoubtedly, this issue is increasing and everyone must put in their effort to eradicate the problem. On the one hand, Singers say that they do sing songs in which weapons are being promoted just because their audience like it. Moreover, no person kills another after listening to a weapon-promoting song. On the other hand, it is the responsibility of the state government to maintain law and order. Since the government is taking strict actions against the culprits, it could change the mindset of people.
Listen to the lyrics carefully
In weapon-promoting songs, words like desi Katta, Kanpuri Asla, Russian gun, and Mexican gun can be heard. So it is the responsibility of the government to prohibit the supply of weapons illegitimately. A few months back, a renowned singer Sidhu Moosewala was killed with imported weapons. Who is responsible for his death? So the Punjab government should prohibit the supply of lethal weapons and arms between states.
Conclusion
It is under the government’s authority to issue licenses. The government can make strict criteria to own a weapon. There should not be any loopholes in the arms act. Culprits must be strictly punished.
In the end, I can say that there is no denying fact that gun culture is increasing day by day. The government is making possible efforts to put an end to it, however, it is the responsibility of each and every person to not blame one or the other. In other words, it would be unfair if we blame only singers for it because if one is producing then the other is consuming, so it is a two-way process. There are other factors that are responsible for increasing gun culture, which we have to attentively figure out.
* I have heard and read pieces of news where it is claimed that pictures and/or videos that are shared are with toy guns, not the real ones. In my perspective, a strict investigation should be done because that could also become a loophole for culprits.
MASSIVE RESULTS CAN BE ACHIEVED WITH COLLECTIVE ACTIONS.
