Punjab Police will form 2 armed battalion 20 KM border area
Punjab Police will form 2 armed battalion 20 KM border area. The Punjab government has sent a proposal to the central government of India to form two armed battalions in the state. On October 11, the Ministry of Home Affairs had increased the area of jurisdiction for the Border Security Force in Punjab, Assam, and West Bengal. The area of jurisdiction was increased from 15 km to 50 km. Punjab police will form battalions to secure its border area. The police station will be upgraded in Amritsar, Fazilka, Firozpur, Gurdaspur, Jalalabad, Pathankot, and Tarantaran. Police personnel and police officers will be armed with advanced weapons and commando training will also be given to them. 1800 soldiers will be recruited under two battalions.
Why does Punjab Police take this decision?
To curb smuggling and terrorist activities in border areas of the state.
Advanced weapons will be given to the Punjab police because terrorists are also armed with advanced weapons.
The Punjab government wants to provide commando training to its police officers so that they can compete with the terrorists.
