Sharpshooters commandos deployment Punjab border districts. On October 18, CM Charanjit Singh Channi said that Punjab is capable to secure its borders, therefore he opposes the decision of the central government on increasing the jurisdiction area of the BSF. He added that maintaining law and order is a State subject and if help is needed in the future they will ask.
Reasons for the deployment of sharpshooters and commando in Punjab?
Recently, the central government increased the area of jurisdiction for the Border Security Force (BSF) which was strongly opposed by the Punjab government. To counter this, Deputy CM and home minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa announced that sharpshooters and commandos will be deployed on the borders of Punjab which will strengthen the police more. Advanced weapons and gadgets will also be given to them.
PAP and IRB’s special commandos for maintaining law and order
To maintain law and order in the state Punjab Armed Police (PAP) and India Reserve Battalions’ (IRB) special commandos will be deployed. Command will be given to SP and DSP of Counter Agency, who can share every information related to Pakistan with range officers.
Search operation by Armed Battalion in border districts of Punjab
Police, commandos, IRB, and PAP will be included under Armed Battalion. They will hold a search operation, blockade, and vehicles passing to the inter-state will be checked.
The separate police force for different demonstrations and rallies
The Punjab government has taken a decision to not deploy police officers for arranging different demonstrations and rallies. The separate police force will assist these activities so that the functioning of the border is not affected.
