South Delhi Municipal Corporation established Nutrition Garden schools. PTI reported that on December 16, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has established Nutrition Garden in its 48 schools and 100 more will be set up by the end of December. The department will organize workshops to set up Nutrition Garden. Brinjal, Carrot, Chikoo, Fenugreek, Guava, Lemon, Malta, Mango, Mulberry, and pomegranate, etc. will be grown in the gardens. Fruits and vegetables will be grown by following the weather cycle and organic compost will be used to grow them. By the end of January 2022, Nutrition Garden in all 568 SDMC schools and SDMC aided schools will be set up.
What’s the need for setting up the Nutrition Garden in the schools?
A lot of children report a deficiency of protein, vitamins, calcium, and essential minerals. Vegetables and fruits grown in the Nutrition Garden will be used for Mid-Day meals to provide nutritious food to children.
SDMC will help schools
SDMC commissioner Gyanesh Bharti said that the department will help schools to set up Nutrition Garden. He added that schools that are facing a shortage of land will start the garden with the help of the pots. Arrangements of pots will be made for the schools.
