Twitter edit button keep edited tweet history Jane Manchun Wong. A few days back, Elon Musk, who is the biggest stakeholder in the company, run a Twitter poll to ask people if users want an edit button in the app. Besides that, Twitter has been working to addon an edit button in the app. So a researcher named Jane Manchun Wong explained this feature through a tweet. She tweeted, ”Looks like Twitter’s approach to edit Tweet is immutable, as in, instead of mutating the tweet text within the same Tweet (same ID), it re-creates a new Tweet with the amended content, along with the list of the old Tweets prior of that edit.” 

In other words, with the help of the edit button users can edit the tweet, however, it would keep the history of the earlier tweet as well. Although, it has not been decided yet, whether Twitter will make the history of the old tweet visible to the public or not. Additionally, Wong did not make it clear how the edited tweet will be displayed before the users.
